Land Use

The Land Use office is the umbrella for the Department of Building Safety, Department of Environmental Health and the Department of Planning and Zoning.

These departments ensure that buildings and property meet the public health standards and land use regulations as set forth by the Board of Alamosa County Commissioners. These standards and regulations encompass all land use development such as subdivisions, planning, and new construction. All departments use on-site inspections and application reviews to ensure that all regulations are met.

As of August 1, 2016 the Alamosa County Land Use office has adopted:
1. 2012 International Building Code (IBC).
2. 2012 International Residential Code (IRC).
3. 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
Please note: our Building Valuation Data and Fee Schedule have also changed effective August 1, 2016.
NOTICE: We have also made changes to our Plan Review and Inspection policies:
1. All inspection requests require a minimum 24-hour Notice.
2. All permit applications are processed in the order they are received.
3. Building Plans require a minimum of 7-business days of review.
4. Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS) plans require a minimum 72-hours of review
5. Re-roof and fencing permits may still be issued same day but certain applications may take up to 24-hours to review.

Any building application submitted to the Land Use Office or Building Department will be reviewed and inspected under the new codes.
We appreciate your patience as we adopt these new policies to better serve Alamosa County.
