TB TESTING TIME CHANGE

Alamosa County Public Health Department has changed the times of tuberculin (Tb) skin testing.

Effective February 1, 2013 the new PLACEMENT time will be Tuesday mornings from 8:00 to 11:30.  No appointment is necessary.

The person must then return to have the test CHECKED on Thursday afternoon between 1:00 and 3:00.  Cost for Tb testing is $15.00.

We believe this change will improve the quality of Tb testing provided by ACPHD.  We hope for a smooth transition to the new time and appreciate your cooperation.  Call Alamosa County Public Health Department at 589-6639 for more information.

ALAMOSA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH BRINGS NEW HEALTH RESOURCES TO THE VALLEY

Alamosa County Public Health has partnered with National Jewish Health, the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center (SLVRMC), Rocky Mountain Prevention Research Center, Alamosa and Sangre de Cristo Schools, and Adams State University to improve health in our community.  With Alamosa County Public Health as the lead organization, this team was recently awarded a grant from the Cancer, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease Grant Program of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.  The goal of the grant is to continue to complete yearly school-based health assessments in Alamosa County to identify early risk factors of chronic illness such as being overweight or obese and to identify children with asthma or hypertension in order to provide education, support and training to modify risk factors and improve management of chronic conditions.  Children and their families identified with a health concern will be provided opportunities to participate in evidence-based programs that will help them adopt healthy habits.
