HCP for Children with Special Needs
How does a child become involved with HCP?
Anyone, including the child's family, medical provider, or services providers may refer al child to HCP if there is concern about a special health care need.
NOTE: HCP is the expert on children and yough with special health care needs. Even if you are not sure HCP can assist you, please call: 719-589-4313.
Medical specialty clinics include:
- Newborn Hearing Screening & Followup
- Pediatric Cardiology
- Pediatric Neurology
- Pediatric Orthopedics/Scoliosis
- Rehabilitation
All children, with or without insurance, are welcome to attend these clinics. However, blood tests, procedures and medications are not covered. The child should have a referral from their primary care doctor to receive evaluation and followup at our clinics.

Care Coordination
Coordination of care for children with complex needs is available through County Public Health Nurses.
On-going Family Support
Parents of children who have complex medical needs should begin planning for their child's future. Plans for this transition should begin when the child is 14 yeras old. HCP will guide you in this process.
Traumatic Brain Injury
The Brain Injury Association of Colorado (BIAC) contracts with HCP to provide extensive care coordination for eligible children with TBI, ages 0-21.
How do I pay for HCP Services?
Specialty Medical Providers will bill the child's insurance company. In some cases, there may be a sliding-fee for specialty clinic services. We will assist families with resources for health insurance coverage such as Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
