Adult Medicaid

Provides medical assistance to needy adults in conjunction with adult public assistance grant programs, such as Old Age Pension (OAP), Aid to the Needy Disabled (AND), and Supplemental Security Income/Colorado Supplement (SSI/CS). Income and resource guidelines must be met.

Baby Care/ Kids Care

Provides medical assistance for pregnant women to receive prenatal care, labor and delivery, and family planning during pregnancy and 60 days after delivery. The newborn child receives full medical care for up to age one. Kids Care is for children born after September 30, 1983. It provides for complete health and hospital care, including prescriptions, well child checkups, immunizations, dental, vision, and hearing care. Eligibility for pregnant women is based upon income, and eligibility for children is based upon income and resources.

Family “1931”Medicaid

Provides medical assistance to needy families who would have been eligible for the former Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) under regulations in effect on July 16, 1996. Family Medicaid is also sometimes referred to as “1931” Medicaid. Income and resources guidelines must be met.

Medical Assistance Estate Recovery Program (MAER)

This program is managed by the Colorado State Department of Human Services and recovers from the estate of deceased Medicaid recipients age 65 or over, the cost of services paid by Medicaid for nursing home residents and recipients. There are certain exemption provisions.

Nursing Home

Provides Medicaid to individuals institutionalized (for 30 days for more) in Medicaid certified hospitals, nursing homes, and/or in rehabilitation facilities. Income and resource guidelines must be met.

  • Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)
  • Qualified Individuals (QI)
  • Special Low Income Medicare Beneficiary Program (SLMB)

These programs pay for all or part of the Medicare (Part B) premiums for Medicare recipients with limited income and resources. Income and resource guidelines must be met.

Spousal Impoverishment Protection Program (SIP)

Provides protection to a community spouse (spouse of Nursing Home resident or Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) participant to prevent impoverishment of the community spouse. A resource assessment establishes the couple’s countable assets as belonging to the spouse who remains at home.
