Dave Stong, Alamosa County Sheriff
Dave Stong has been an Alamosa resident all of his life. He, along
with his one brother Mike and eight sisters, Patty, Paula, Cindy,
Terry, Peggy,
Kathy, Mary, and Amber grew up in Alamosa under the watchful eye
and guidance of their parents Paul and Billie Stong.
Dave is married to Ann Colgan- Lopez. They have three children;
Kerri, a 2003 MBA graduate of Denver University lives in Erie,
Colorado, Michelle, a student at the University of Colorado at
Colorado Springs, and Heather a student at the University of Arizona
in Tucson.
In the winter of 1975 Dave began his law enforcement career with
the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, ultimately obtaining the rank of Undersheriff. In May of 1982 Dave joined the ranks of the Alamosa Police Department as their Chief Investigator. Dave then moved onto the 12th Judicial District Attorneys Office, where he served as their Chief Investigator until being elected Sheriff in November of 1993.
Dave ran for the Alamosa County Sheriff’s position because he wanted to be able to give something back to his community. With his past experience in local law enforcement Dave has much to contribute to the community as he continues in this position.
Dave is a 1981 Graduate of Adams State College with a degree in
Psychology. He is also a graduate of the Colorado Law Enforcement
Training Academy and the National Sheriff’s Academy. For the past five years Dave has served as the chairman of the County Sheriff’s of Colorado Training Committee. In 2003, the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training appointed Dave as the coordinator for the San Luis Valley Region of Colorado’s Peace Officer Training Project. He has also served as a past President of the San Luis Valley Peace Officers Association.
In 2001 Dave received the National Association of Counties Leadership
Award for striving to help build the San Luis Valley into a disaster
resistant community.
Dave continues to give back to his community by working with many
other local and state boards and organizations.
