Sheriff Dave Stong is the elected Sheriff of Alamosa County, and is in his third term of office.
The Undersheriff of Alamosa County holding the rank of Major, is John L. Bianca. Major Bianca has been with the agency since July 1 of 1987 starting at the Rank of Captain, and serving as the Jail Administrator. Major Bianca is in his 29 th year of law enforcement and has worked both in Michigan and in LaPlata County Colorado.
The Alamosa County Sheriff's Office is broken down to four main divisions, and three Sub-Divisions:
The Detention Division has Sergeant Ronald Goodman as its officer in charge. Sgt. Goodman has been with the agency for 10 years, with previous service with the Alamosa Police Department, St. Peters Police Department, and St. Charles County Sheriff in Missouri. The agencies House Arrest and Court Unit is attached to the Detention Center.
The Investigative and Administrative Division has Sergeant Harry E. Alejo as its officer in charge. Sgt. Alejo has been with the agency for 15 years. He also served in its Detention and Patrol Divisions, as well as officer in charge of the agencies administrative services and dive team. Prior to his service with the Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Alejo served in the United States Marine Corps retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major.
The Patrol Division has Sergeant James McCloskey as its officer in charge. Sgt. McCloskey is starting his 20th year of service to the Sheriff’s Office He is a San Luis Valley Native who graduated from the Sangre de Cristo School System, and presently holds a degree in criminology from Adams State College/ Trinidad Jr. College. Sgt McCloskey is in charge or the K9 Unit as well as a U.S.P.C.A. Trainer, and a N.P.C.A Certified K-9 Judge.
The Victim Advocate Division has Janice Holman as its Coordinator in Charge of this mostly volunteer division. She has one Paid employee and a staff of 20 non-compensated employees. Ms. Holman started her employment six years ago as a volunteer and has progressed to overseeing the division. The victim advocate division provides immediate crisis intervention and community referrals to crime victims.
