SHERIFF'S OFFICE > Victim's Advocate Volunteers

How do I become a volunteer?

First you must pick up an application (a background check will be done) from the Alamosa Law Enforcement Center. If the application is accepted you will have to go before a panel for an oral interview. After successfully completing the first tow steps, you will have to complete and graduate a 50 hour Victim Advocate Academy.

Once you have completed all of the previous steps you will be on a probation period of 90 days. During the probation period you will be teamed up with a senior advocate to learn and to be critiqued on your skills. To remain with the Unit you must be able to take lead position on the advocate team, attend two thirds of the monthly meetings, take calls one week a month, and follow department policy.
