SHERIFF'S OFFICE > Victim's Advocate Unit Funding
The Alamosa Victim Response Unit is a non-profit organization that is funded by various grants, donations, in-kind-matches and fundraisers.
Grants are a very strict form of funding. The grant money is regulated by federal and state guidelines. Those guidelines determine who is a victim and how the money will be spent to help them. Our unit is not funded to provide shelter, transportation, sexual assault clothing, 911 emergency cell phones or the expenses of scene clean up.
Donations are another form of funding for our unit. Through the gifts of donations we have managed to provide 911 emergency cell phones, shelter, sexual assault clothing, clothing, hygiene kits, and stuffed animals or quilts (traumatized children).
The in-kind-matches are the hours that the volunteers are willing to give to the community. If it was not for the volunteers we would be unable to qualify for the grants that we receive. The volunteers are the unit, because without them there would be no one to provide those services needed by so many people. The volunteers use their own vehicles and gas. A lot of the time the volunteers uses his or her own money to provide the victim with what they need. The volunteers get nothing in return for the hard work, time, compassion, and caring besides a “Thank You”.
