Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response > Regional Epidemiologist

It is the responsibility of the SLV Regional Trainer to assure that the Pubic Health agencies in the San Luis Valley are trained to respond in the case of a public health emergency. The trainer also works with the public health partners to promote and deliver training opportunities for emergency preparedness.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Identify training that will support local and regional emergency preparedness planning efforts.
- Coordinate/facilitate emergency and public health preparedness courses, including but not limited to: SNS emergency notification systems, mental health, risk communication, and related skills to enhance local capacity regarding current best practices and new trends.
- Design and implement a regional training system to increase awareness and access to public health trainings at the national, state, and local levels.
- Assist in the development and delivery of volunteer management training related to the variety of expertise needed to manage large-scale clinic operations such as vaccinators, security personnel, transportation and traffic control, vaccine storage and handling, clinic management, screeners, private physicians, etc.
- Collaborate with first responders in their region to establish and maintain a distribution system for first responder training.
- Assist in the development and coordination of, as well as participate in, all-hazards public health preparedness exercises of local and regional emergency plans to demonstrate proficiency in responding to bioterrorism, other infectious disease outbreaks, and other public health threats and emergencies.
