During the 2003 legislative session, the General Assembly of Colorado passed House Bill 1356 and Senate Bill 102 which require identification to be presented at your polling place in order to vote. Please read the following information carefully.

Where do I register to vote?

You can get registration application forms from this web site, state agency offices, public libraries, or at any County Clerk and Recorder's office.

How do I become eligible to vote?

In order to be eligible to vote, you must register in the county in which you reside. By registering, you declare you residency in the State of Colorado within the County and District of your actual physical residence. You must register 29 days before the election to be eligible to vote.

What are the requirements to register to vote?

To register you must:

• Be a U.S. citizen
• Be 18 years of age
• Reside in this state and at your present address at least 30 days before the election
• Provide proof of ID

Can I register to vote if I am not yet 18 years of age?

Yes. You can register early if you will be 18 on or before Election Day.

Do I have to bring my identification to register or vote?

Yes, it is necessary to present identification when you register to vote in person, vote early or vote at the polling place. One of the following forms of identification is required when you REGISTER TO VOTE:

• A valid driver's license
• A valid identification card issued by the Department of Revenues, or
• Your social security number

One of the following forms of ID is required when voting early or at your polling place:

• A valid driver's license
• A valid identification card issued by the Department of Revenue
• A valid United States Passport
• A valid Employee Identification Card with photograph of the eligible elector issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the United State Government or of this state, or by any county, municipality, board, authority, or other political subdivision of this state
• A valid pilot's license with a photograph of the eligible elector issued by the Federal Aviation Administration or other authorized agency of the United States
• A valid United States Military Identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector
• A valid Medicare or Medicaid card issues by the United States Health Care Financing Administration
• A Certified Copy or a birth Certificate for the elector issued in the United States
• Certified Documentation of Naturalization
• A copy of a current Utility bill, Bank Statement, Government check, Paycheck, or other Government Document that shows the name and address of the elector

NOTE: ALL acceptable forms of identification MUST reflect a Colorado address.

What happens if I don't bring an acceptable form of ID to the polling place?

You may be required to vote on a provisional ballot. Save the hassle and bring your ID when you vote! For more information or questions, please contact the Alamosa County Clerk & Recorder 719-589-6681.

When do I vote?

You may vote at your Polling Place any time on Election Day between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Early voting is available during regular business hours 10 days before a primary election and 15 days before a November election conducted by the County Clerk & Recorder. Election dates, times and location may be obtained by contacting the Alamosa County Clerk & Recorder 719-589-6681.

Do I have to go to the polls to vote?

No, you have several options; you can vote at the polls on Election Day, Early Vote at the Clerk & Recorder's Office, or Vote Absentee in person or by mail.

How can I receive an Absentee Ballot?

You may pick up an application in our office or go to the "Forms to Download" page of this web site to access the form online. If you wish to have a ballot mailed to you, the application must be received by the County Clerk's office by close of business on the Tuesday, one week prior to Election Day.

Absentee ballots may be obtained in person at the county Clerk's Office until close of business on the Friday proceeding Election Day.

When is the deadline to register to vote?

If you want to vote in an election, you just mail or deliver your registration form to your County Clerk & Recorder no later than 29 days before the election in which you wish to vote. Your eligibility to vote will be based on the postmark date or the date you file your registration form in the Clerk & Recorders Office.

How do I update my address information after I've moved?

If you move from your voter registration address, you must change your new address with the County Clerk & Recorder. You may either mail your address change to our office or come into our office at 402 Edison, PO Box 630, Alamosa, CO 81101. A change of address form is available on our site for download or you may also use our online Change of Address form on this site.

Please Note: If you have not changed your address and it is within the 19 day period before the next election, you must come into the Elections Department at the County Clerk & Recorder's office to make the change.

How do I become Poll Worker (Election Judge)?

To become an election judge you must:

• Be an eligible elector
• Be mentally and physically able to perform all required tasks
• Attend a training class
• Not have been convicted of election fraud or any other election offense

If you meet the qualification above, simply notify the Elections Department at the county Clerk & Recorder's office.

Remember, judges are paid by the County for their efforts.
