Welcome to Alamosa County!

Our thriving community is home to over 15,000 residents. Alamosa is the commercial hub of the San Luis Valley and the gateway to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Equipped with prime agricultural land, innovative businesses in energy, industry, cultural heritage, and transportation, Alamosa County residents and visitors also enjoy access to some of Colorado's best wilderness and outdoor recreation. Our climate is perfect for the agricultural production of barley, potatoes, alfalfa, and with 350+ days of sunshine a year, we are one of the most productive locations for solar power plants in the U.S.

Important News about 2024 Tax Payments

There are some major changes to your tax statement for 2023 property taxes payable in 2024:

Your tax statements will be mailed later than normal due to changes in State Law. The Colorado Legislature and Governor Polis recently enacted changes to laws to accommodate property tax relief, which will delay Colorado counties certifying their tax roll. The new tax roll deadline is January 24, 2024, which is two weeks later than previous years. This extra time will allow taxing authorities sufficient time to certify their mill levies and county assessors more time to compile newly required data. The changes do not alter the first-half payment due date for property taxes which is February 29, 2024, due to the 2024 Leap Year. We anticipate the tax notices will be mailed on approximately February 10, 2024; which is almost one month later than in previous years. We apologize but this is out of our control.

Thank you,
Amy McKinley
